Federal District Court Clerkship Interview Opportunities (2022–2023 Term)
This message is to inform you of a special opportunity to be considered for ten (10) federal district court clerkships, one bankruptcy court clerkship, and one federal magistrate court clerkship – in one interview, and to encourage you to apply. District Judge Raymond Jackson and several of his colleagues feel that it is important to encourage more minorities to compete for federal judicial clerkships. These judges accept and consider law clerk applicants of all backgrounds, and this opportunity is merely an effort in addition to, not in lieu of, traditional application channels. Rising 3Ls, as well as law school graduates, interested in federal clerkships should apply. Unfortunately, rising 2Ls are not allowed to apply for 2022-2023 term clerkships.
The Share the Wealth Judicial Law Clerk Program is a referral program run by judges. Participating judges screen qualified law student applicants, conduct panel interviews with twenty (20) students, and consider them for full-time clerkship positions. At the conclusion of this initial process, students who are not extended an offer by one of the judges may have their application packages shared with additional judges who have requested information on applicants through JTB.
Ten Federal District Court Judges, one Federal Magistrate Judge, and one Federal Bankruptcy Judge will be conducting a round of interviews in connection with Just the Beginning–A Pipeline Organization’s Share the Wealth Judicial Law Clerk Program. Twenty students will be selected to interview; you may not attend unless you are specifically invited to do so. The interview will occur using Zoom on August 12, and August 13, 2021. The selected students will be notified via email of the exact time slot for their interview.
The following federal judges and bankruptcy judge will be participating in the 2021 law clerk interview session: District Judge Raymond Jackson (EDVA.); Chief Judge Mark Davis (EDVA); Chief Bankruptcy Judge Frank Santoro (EDVA); Magistrate Judge Ivan Davis (EDVA); District Judge Brian Jackson (MDLA); District Judge Benita Pearson (NDOH); District Judge Linda Parker (EDMI); Senior District Judge Victoria Roberts (EDMI); District Judge Stephanie Dawkins Davis (EDMI), District Judge Iain Johnston (NDIL), Judge Mark Goldsmith (EDMI), and Senior District Judge Ivan Lemelle (EDLA). Please note that most clerkships are for a one-year term starting in 2022.
Each judge will review applications and participate in deciding which students to invite to this special round of interviews. You must submit a separate application package via OSCAR to each judge whom you would like to consider your application. Please see below for further clarification on application deadlines and submission guidelines for specific judges. The panel will only
interview candidates who will agree to be considered for a clerkship by at least three of the eleven participating judges. The application deadline is July 6, 2021.
Please feel free to contact Missy Jeje at mjeje@jtb.org if you have any questions.
