The Skadden Fellowship provides two years of funding for recent law school graduates to work in the public interest, addressing the civil legal needs of people living in poverty in the US. In advance of our application period, our goal is to provide as much helpful information as possible so each applicant can put their best foot forward. We have recently posted the updated application on our website’s application process page. The Skadden Fellowship application will be due on Friday September 10, 2021.
In keeping with changes we implemented last year, you will see that the application contains a fourth essay question, which asks applicants to share their vision of the role of public interest work in addressing systemic racism, and there is a brief certification to be signed by the host organization. As we have in the past two years, we have included the following welcoming statement in our application materials: we encourage applications from individuals who are members of groups that historically have been underrepresented in the legal profession, as well as from those whose personal or professional experiences have yielded deep connections with or insights into the marginalized client communities they seek to serve.
We haven’t yet determined if fall interviews will be conducted remotely or in person; once we have made our decision, we will post that information on our website https://www.skaddenfellowships.org/application
If you or your students would like additional general information about the Skadden Fellowship, please consider joining one of our virtual information sessions. As always, potential applicants are welcome to reach out to discuss any project ideas with me. I have already had numerous phone and video check-ins with potential applicants, and am always happy to do so whenever in the cycle that would be useful for an applicant. Applicants may set up a time by emailing me.
Any applicants who may need assistance or accommodations in the application process should contact my colleague Kathy Quijije at kathy.quijije@skadden.com or (212) 735-5176.
Each of you are also welcome to reach out if you have any questions, especially if we have not yet had the opportunity to meet.
