- Are you thinking about where you’d like to practice when you graduate?
- Have you considered practicing in Wisconsin within close proximity to the Minneapolis/St. Paul area?
- Are you interested in learning more about what a Wisconsin practice may look like?
- If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, the State Bar of Wisconsin’s Ready.Set.Practice. Mentoring Program is for you!
The Ready.Set.Practice. Mentoring Program matches law students looking for guidance in their legal career with experienced lawyers, many of them alumni, willing to answer your questions. Tap into their expertise to explore what a practice would look like, ask questions about the most common legal issues, inquire about the community and get a sense of where there’s the greatest need and opportunities.
If you are interested in practicing in Wisconsin, we encourage you to take advantage of this program and be paired with a lawyer who will not only answer your questions but share their insight.
In addition to these questions, we encourage you to ask questions about specific areas of practice as you narrow your focus. The program can also assist you in learning more about law practice management, effective client representation, and help building your professional network. For those looking for guidance on transitioning from the study of law to the practice of law, and learning about specific practice areas, this is a great learning opportunity.
Time is precious, and this program is designed for busy law students and lawyers complete with supporting materials that allow you to get right to work. We encourage law students to determine the depth and length of time you spend with your paired lawyer:
- Communicate via phone, email or with virtual meetings.
- Meet with your lawyer advisor as often as your schedule allows during the upcoming school year.
- Bring questions over the course of a conversation or two and go no further; or identify specific areas you’re interested in exploring and meet regularly during the rest of the academic year.
To apply, visit WisBar.org and complete the online form by October 15th, and contact Karen Beall with any questions.
