The University of Michigan Law School invites you to apply for the 2025 Bergstrom Child Welfare Law Retreat, which will be held in person from May 13-15, 2025. Applications are due by March 31, 2025.
For over two decades, the Bergstrom program has been a cornerstone program at Michigan Law, bringing together students passionate about child welfare law to foster community, build meaningful relationships, and deepen their understanding of the child protection system. Fellows will engage with leading practitioners and scholars on critical topics such as:
• Trauma and secondary trauma
• Racial bias in the child welfare system
• Poverty and its intersection with child protection
• Kinship care
• Compassion and its role in advocacy
• Current trends in child protection law
Fellows consistently highlight that one of the most rewarding aspects of the retreat is connecting with like-minded law students who share their commitment to improving the foster care system.
The Bergstrom Foundation will cover travel expenses, housing, and meals for all participants. Interested students can find more information about the program and application process here.
