The Giles Sutherland Rich Intellectual Property Moot Court Competition is an appellate advocacy competition. Patent law is emphasized. The national competition is run under the auspices of the American Intellectual Property Law Association. Participants research a problem, write at least one appellate brief, and present an oral argument before panels of judges.
There are three levels of competition: intra-school, regional, and national. At each level, teams of two students work together writing their briefs and preparing their oral arguments.
Students interested in competing in this competition must take the course IP Appellate Practice. MHSL will not participate in this competition in 2024-25.
Credits
Students earn two (2) pass/fail credits at the regional and an additional credit at the national competition.
