Mitchell Hamline School of Law received $212,893 in funding from the Department of Education in Higher Education Emergency Relief funding. A Certification of Agreement was signed by the President and Dean Peter Knapp and submitted to the Department of Education acknowledging in accordance with Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES ACT that the school intends to use no less than 50 percent of the funds that were received for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.
As of June 30th 2021, the school has disbursed all the the student portion of the funds. The school also disbursed the institutional portion of funding to our students as well. To date, $212,894 has been disbursed to a total of 172 students. The estimated total number of students at Mitchell Hamline School of Law that are eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in the Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and those eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act is 806. This number is based on Spring 2020 enrollment and Title IV eligibility.
Mitchell Hamline has reached out to our student population several ways to promote the student applications for the Emergency Financial Aid Grants. Information was sent to students via email, and an announcement was posted through the Docket s. The Financial Aid office has also posted a link to information on the Emergency Financial Aid Grants on their webpage posted in their news feed. Students are encouraged to complete an online application for the funding. The application requests information from the student to support the Department of Education requirements for the disbursement of the Emergency Financial Aid Grants. Students may request a dollar amount not to exceed $1,000 for the student portion of the funding. However, with the disbursement of the institutional share of CARES funding to students, we increased the request amount to $2,000. All applications are reviewed by a committee made up of Mitchell Hamline faculty and staff.
