Jessica Miller was born in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, and was raised in Minnetonka, Minnesota. She graduated from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities, and worked for Travelers Insurance before enrolling at William Mitchell in the fall of 2009. At William Mitchell, Jessica was an active member of the Native American Law Student Association, helping to organize legal clinics on the White Earth Reservation and traveling with fellow NALSA members to the National Indian Law Conference in Santa Fe, New Mexico. During the summer after her 2L year, Jessica worked for the White Earth Tribal Court through the Minnesota Justice Foundation Summer Clerkship Program. She graduated with honors from William Mitchell in the spring of 2012.
Jessica is currently the full-time law clerk for the White Earth Tribal Court in White Earth, Minnesota, where she is responsible for assisting the Tribal Court judges in drafting orders and conducting legal research in a variety of areas. Jessica also assists the court with federal grant writing related to court development in a number of areas, and with drafting tribal codes such as the Elder Protection Code. She also works as a guardian ad litem on a number of child custody cases heard in the Tribal Court.
Jessica is a member of the Minnesota American Bar Association and the Becker County Bar Association. “I feel so fortunate to have been a part of the William Mitchell Indian Law program. The personal and professional relationships I formed through the Program will continue to serve me throughout my legal career. Through law school, I had the incredible support and encouragement of Professors Routel and Deer, as well as my peers. The William Mitchell Indian Law program is truly second to none.”
