Law School Process and Procedures
The following steps must be taken before any Bar Review Company (“Company”) will be permitted to conduct programming or promote its materials at Mitchell Hamline School of Law (“Law School”).
- Provide copy of Company materials. Before any Company is permitted to conduct programming or promote its materials at the Law School, the Company Representative must submit its Bar Review outlines, online lectures, essay grading program and any other Bar Review materials, and any contract and marketing material to the Director of Academic Excellence for review and approval.
- Review and sign Law School Bar Review Policy. Each Company Representative and Lead Student Representative must review this policy, complete and sign the attached Statement by Authorized Representatives, and return a copy to the Office of Academic Excellence no later than 14 days after the first day of each semester. Submissions may be in hard or soft copy; emailed or scanned copies may be sent to excellence@mitchellhamline.edu. Any change to the Statement must be sent to the Director of Academic Excellence within one week of the change. Upon receipt of the signed Statement, the Office of Academic Excellence shall notify the Dean of Students that the Company has been approved to be at the Law School.
- Scheduling rooms and reservation of tables. Each Company who wishes to provide a program or display or promote its materials at the Law School must contact Student Services for scheduling and reservation of a room or table.
- Companies who plan to provide lectures. If a Company Representative plans to provide a lecture, program, or course at the Law School, the Lead Company Representative must provide the Director of Academic Excellence with the type of program, the name of the Company Representative responsible for the program and a list of any speakers, and the substantive content of the presentation, at least six weeks prior to the start of the program.
Law School Access and Compliance
A Company must comply with the provisions in the Mitchell Hamline School of Law Catalog titled, “Student Solicitation Policy,” and the following provisions:
- Access Period. During the Fall semester, no Company may conduct programming or promote its materials at the Law School until 60 days after the start of Fall classes and any Company program or promotion activity must cease by the last day of Fall classes. During the Spring semester, no Company may conduct programming or promote its materials at the Law School until 60 days after the start of Spring classes and any Company program or promotion activity must cease by the last day of Spring classes. Bar Companies cannot conduct programming or promote its materials during the Summer unless the Law School has entered into a written agreement permitting the Company to be at the Law School. Each Company may be present at the Law School no more than one day per week and for no more than six hours each day during the permissible time periods laid out in this policy.
- Solicitation, distribution limited. Company Representatives may only solicit students or distribute literature or information about their programs at previously reserved tables or during programs previously approved by the Director of Academic Excellence and Dean of Students. Other than reserved tables or programs previously approved by the Director of Academic Excellence and Dean of Students, Company Representatives may not advertise or solicit students anywhere else at the Law School in any form including but not limited to: mass solicitation emails, advertising on physical or electronic bulletin boards (including School-sponsored Facebook pages and other social media), classrooms or breezeways, placing bar review information or materials at the Law School.
- Conduct. Company Representatives must conduct themselves in a civil, respectful, honest, and professional manner towards Law School departments, faculty, staff, students, and competing Company Representatives.
- Violation of this Policy. The privilege of access to the Law School and its students is conditional upon compliance with this policy, as well as all other rules and procedures of the Law School. A Company Representative’s failure to comply with this policy may result in the suspension or termination of the privilege of access to the Law School. A violation of this policy by Student Representatives may result in disciplinary action against the Student.
