Professor Eric Janus gave a guest lecture in Professor Joanna Woolman’s Criminal Law Class on sex offense civil commitment on November 14.
EVENT: 11/15/2023 Alternatives to a Punishment Theory in Litigation Addressing Registration and Notification Schemes
Professor Eric Janus and Maddie Ranum organized a mini-convening via zoom entitled “Alternatives to a Punishment Theory in Litigation Addressing Registration and Notification Schemes” held on November 15. At the convening, Professor Janus presented on the topic: What we can learn from constitutional litigation about civil commitment.
OTHER: 11/15/2023 Vital Projects Fund Grant
Professor Eric Janus announced that the school has received a grant of $246,000 from the Vital Projects Fund to support the Sex Offense Litigation and Policy Resource Center. Established in 2017, the Center is entirely grant funded, having received over $1.2 million in support. The Center’s mission is to provide support for lawyers and social scientists nationwide who are engaged in impact litigation and policy reform work addressing so-called regulatory laws imposing liberty-restraints post-sentence for people with past convictions for sex offenses.
