When you have paid the course deposit, let the financial aid office know you plan to participate in a summer study abroad program. We’ll add the total program cost to your 2024-25 Fall/Spring budget and offer loans to pay for the summer program and your anticipated Fall/Spring tuition and fee costs.
- When notified, accept offered financial aid through the 2024-25 Mitchell Hamline Student Records/Student Information location.
- Federal Summer loan eligibility requires 2 summer credits minimum registration.
- Financial aid will disburse to your Student Account and a credit balance check or eRefund will be issued no sooner than 10 days before the start of classes.
- Financial aid is offered to pay for the Study Abroad/Fall/Spring budget total. The unsubsidized loan is limited to $20,500 annually, and is split equally between planned semesters. The Grad PLUS loan increases to pay for the difference between the budgeted cost and all of your other financial aid.
- Mitchell Hamline scholarships cannot be used for Off-Campus or Study Abroad tuition costs.
Mitchell Hamline Students: Study Away Through Another School
Planning to study away at or through another school? Federal Loans are available for these costs. Please refer to the following information to get the process started. Summer 2024 begins the 2024-25 academic year. If you are interested in Federal student loan funding, file the 2024-25 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to get federal loans for Summer 2024 /Study Abroad.
- Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- Use FAFSA school code G02391
- Review Academic Rule 1.08 in the Law School Catalog
- Submit a Registrar’s Transfer of Credit Request Form for approval
- Provide the Financial Aid Office with your planned program details (email with an attachment is ok!)
- Program costs are added to the usual fall/spring budget. More loans are then offered to cover the added costs.
- When notified, accept offered financial aid through the My Financial Aid link portal location.
- Federal summer loan eligibility requires 2 summer credits minimum registration.
- Financial aid will be issued to you no sooner than 10 days before the start of classes.

Visiting Mitchell Hamline? Planning to use federal aid for study abroad program costs? Provide your home school financial aid office with our financial aid office contact information (shown in the column to the left). Your home school will coordinate your federal aid with us, and our program tuition due date will be changed to match your home school’s aid disbursement date. The coordination between schools is called a Consortium Agreement.
