Marla Berkow
In July 2011, Marla began working for a subsidiary of Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC) located in the western suburbs of Chicago. HCSC is the largest customer-owned health insurer in the United States and fourth largest overall, operating through its Blue Cross and Blue Shield® Plans in Illinois, Montana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. After graduating from Hamline’s Health Care Compliance Certificate in May 2014, she was offered a position in the HCSC Privacy Office, located at the corporate headquarters in downtown Chicago. It was a big promotion, allowing her to work enterprise wide and at the corporate level.”
Since starting in her position as Privacy Administrator, she has applied her Hamline education by: investigating, resolving and documenting cases related to privacy; drafting response letters regarding HIPAA privacy concerns and individual rights; analyzing state and federal privacy legislation for operational implementation; reviewing detailed operating procedures against corporate policies and standards, and developing PowerPoint presentations for business area training & development.
