The Health Care Fraud & Abuse: Enforcement Priorities CLE
featuring U.S. Attorney Andrew Luger is now available. This 1-credit standard CLE is free for Mitchell Hamline School of Law students, alumni, faculty, and staff.
Health care fraud costs the United States tens of billions of dollars each year. Some estimates put the figure close to $100 billion a year. It is a rising threat, with national health care expenditures estimated to exceed $3 trillion in 2014. Health care fraud schemes continue to grow in complexity and seriousness. The dedicated efforts of law enforcement are a major component of the fight against health care fraud.
As the head of the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Minnesota, Mr. Luger is responsible for combatting violent crime, drug trafficking, human trafficking, and white collar crime. His office also plays an important role in counterterrorism and national security work. But in addition to all this, Mr. Luger is responsible for the prosecution of both criminal and civil healthcare fraud cases in Minnesota. After two years as United States Attorney, Mr. Luger will discuss his office’s initiatives pertaining to healthcare fraud. And he will address the unique role of the government litigator in the Department of Justice.
