Professor Eric Janus served as a panelist for the discussion, “Sex Crimes and Punishments” at a program organized by the Greenburger Center for Social and Criminal Justice and held at New York Law School. Professor Janus was joined on the panel by Professor Aya Gruber of the USC Gould School of Law, Jeremy Travis, Senior Fellow, Columbia Justice Lab, and Judge Mary Huffman of the Ohio Court of Appeals.
PUBLICATION: 4/24/2024 “Sex Offense Civil Commitment: Minnesota’s Failed Investment and the $100 Million Opportunity to Stop Sexual Violence”
Professor Eric Janus and Elena Siegel, director and Legal Fellow, respectively, of Mitchell Hamline’s Sex Offense Litigation & Policy Resource Center issued the report, “Sex Offense Civil Commitment: Minnesota’s Failed Investment and the $100 Million Opportunity to Stop Sexual Violence.” The report documents the failure of Minnesota’s civil commitment program for sex offenders to reduce sexual violence while unnecessarily violating civil and human rights. About 50 experts in law, mental health, law enforcement, criminal justice and human rights have endorsed the report and urged lawmakers to sunset the program and put its $110 million dollar budget into evidence-based programs to prevent sexual violence.

Professor David Allen Larson served as the Co-Chair for the ABA Dispute Resolution Section Annual Conference that was held on April 10-13, 2024 in San Diego, CA. The conference planning team met every two weeks for 9 consecutive months to plan the conference and select the programs from the more than 90 applications. 542 people attended the conference where 51 programs were presented.
