This is a $3,000 scholarship awarded once a year to students that have completed at least one
semester of law school, subject to the criteria identified below.
The Minnesota State Bar Association divides the state into twenty-one districts. The 14th District
includes the following counties located in the far northwest portion of Minnesota: Kittson, Roseau,
Marshall, Polk, Red Lake, Norman, and Mahnomen.
This area offers an extraordinary opportunity to gain work experience, try various areas of the
law, and rapidly develop a career. However, it is difficult to attract individuals who are unaware of the
work opportunities, quality of life, and beauty of this area.
This scholarship is funded by membership fees and is intended to both highlight and attract
individuals to the 14th District.
Eligibility criteria for this scholarship are:
1. One completed semester of law school and a student currently in good standing in an
accredited school.
2. Employment in the 14th District as defined by one of these criteria:
a. Actively employed in the 14th District at the time of the application;
b. Previously employed in 14th District within the past three months; or,
c. Confirmed employment within the 14th District (with a start date within three months of
the application).
3. Employment must be in the legal profession and include at least 25% in-person (and not
remote) work.
