Riley v. State Dep’t of Public Safety, No. 79389 (Nev. 2021)
Nature of Case: Appellant brought a petition to terminate his registration status under Nevada law, arguing that he should be allowed to commingle some provisions of prior state law with current law, which was allowed for other individuals. The trial court denied the petition, and he appealed arguing that it was a violation of Equal Protection.
Holding: Nevada Supreme Court affirmed the dismissal, holding that to the extent that any other individuals succeeded in terminating their registration it was in error. Appellant’s equal protection rights were not violated by refusing to make the same error in his case.
