United States v. Goodpasture, No. 21-1264 (7th Cir. 2021)
Nature of Case: Appellant sought review of district court’s imposition of various special conditions of supervised release as a part of his sentence for violating the conditions of a previously imposed term of supervision.
Appellant objected to a number of the imposed special conditions, including computer and internet monitoring and the prohibition of social media use, arguing that they were not warranted by his personal characteristics or criminal history.
Holding: The Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals vacated in part the district court’s imposition of special conditions of supervised release concluding that the district court did not adequately justify restrictions on computer and internet use.
